Castello di Meleto

Meleto Castle announces itself in theenchanting Chianti landscape at the end of a pleasant driveway lined with cypresses and junipers, amid sun- kissed fields and vineyards. The land of the Castle of Meleto stretches round the castle for about 1,000 hectares, 180 of which are destined to the cultivation of the grapevine. The prevailing grapes are Sangiovese, destined to the production of Chianti Classico wine, together with Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah and other traditional types of vine. The soil is mostly marl, calcareous marl and alberese: it is just in this barren land that the grapevine gives its best fruits, full of scents and natural fragrances.

The vineyards of il Toppello are located in Mantignana, Italy which is in the Umbria region near Perugia. With an altitude of 1150-1300 feet above sea level, its geography is ideal for growing Sangiovese grapes. The medium clay soil imparts the perfect amount of acid into the grapes. The spur-pruned and cordon trained vines provide adequate shading on the fruit for the long, hot and dry summers.
The fruit for il Toppello wine is exclusively from our vineyards. The grapes are carefully harvested at 24 brix and destemmed before fermentation. The wine is left to age in oak barrels and then lightly filtered before bottling. |
